Introduction
This 1963 Volvo PV544 is much more than just a classic. Originally purchased in Germany as a kit in 2007, it was registered in the Netherlands in 2008 and has been in the hands of a single dedicated owner ever since. Initially built for map-reading and stage racing, the car became a familiar sight in the rally world. From 2016 onwards, it was further developed for legend rallies and in 2019, further upgraded to a modern rally car for speed competitions. With an extensive history, this is a unique opportunity to own a car that has more than earned its name and fame in the sport.
Exterior
The exterior of this PV544 is rugged, functional, and purposefully built. The car is equipped with Cibie Super Oscar LED spotlights and an original Volvo roof light, making nighttime rally stages no problem at all. Perspex windows on the sides and rear have saved weight, and the bodywork has been reinforced with an FIA Appendix K roll cage. The exterior exudes rally history and exudes strength and authenticity.
Interior
Inside, you’ll find a cockpit fully equipped for rallying. The cabin is equipped with bucket seats, 6-point harnesses, roll cage padding, and a fire extinguisher system that complies with current FIA safety requirements. In addition, there are both a mechanical and electrical tripmaster, along with a custom electrical dashboard for complete control. Functionality, safety, and precision are paramount here – exactly what you expect from a serious rally car.
Technical
Under the hood lies a reliable, yet heavily modified 4-cylinder B18 engine, equipped with dual Dellorto carburetors and good for an estimated 120 hp. The engine is fitted with Mahle pistons, a modified camshaft, and a lightweight flywheel weighing just 6 kg. The drivetrain is powered by a close-ratio M40 gearbox and a Dana 27 diff with a 4.88 ratio. The dual fuel pump and 80-liter tank make long rally stages possible.
In terms of handling, nothing has been left to chance: heavy-duty springs, reinforced anti-roll bars, and an upgraded front disc brake ensure confidence and control. The split steering column, Kenlow fan, and Simons sports exhaust complete the rally package.
