This ex-works Opel Manta 400 is listed by its racing department “RM22”, the abbreviation RM stands for “Rüsselsheim Manta”. Indeed, Opel’s motorsport department was located there and prepared 37 Manta 400s for competition themselves, the others being prepared by workshops such as Conrero etc.
In total, 245 Manta 400s were built.
This car was built in 1983 for gravel rallies, in the hands of Vatanen, then adapted to “Safari” specifications in 1985 for the 1985 Kenya Safari Rally. It was driven by Erwin Weber. (5th place). He was supporting the other Opel driver, Rauno Aaltonen.
This car is a real collector’s car, more than a car that can participate in today’s VHC events. (approval of roll cage, seats, etc.). Its engine from that period, reniewed by Ulrich gerent Mororsport) is boxed. It is currently offered with a other 400 engine prepared by Gerent also.
