This car was originally professionally built and prepared by Mills Garage in Duns, who were involved with the late Richard Burns. The engine was originally built by Shenpar who were well known for their Peugeot engines. The car was then bought and collected direct from Mills Garage by the famous Grand Prix motor bike collector Chris Wilson, and competed in various disciplines including rallying with some success against much more powerful cars. We then acquired the car in 2010, and since then had been stored until present. It was then decided to “sympathetically recommission” it to use in some of the 2018 Retro Rallycross events.
This was removed and stripped for inspection, and as expected had been unrun since a rebuild by the previous owner. All components were checked by ourselves and Connaught Competition Engines. The block and head was restored to their original finish by Maxspeed Vapour Blasting (www.maxspeedvapourblasting.co.uk). The pistons are 0.5mm oversized Cosworth type units, the crank was lightened and balanced with matching lighter flywheel and competition 4 puck clutch pack. Fully baffled sump, and competition spec big end and main bearings. Full Mocal oil cooler set up. The head is fully ported, polished with oversized valves and full completion spec Piper cam. Carburation is via twin 48 Webbers set up by BD Engineering, and the exhaust is a full equal length 4 branch manifold and new custom made stainless steel exhaust system.
Original 5 speed gearbox fitted with Quaife LSD and 4:6 CWP and rebuilt by the previous owner, rose jointed gear linkage, competition lightweight 4 puck clutch. (Spare brand new plate incl.)
Originally professionally built by Mills Garage in Duns. Fully stitch welded and strengthened through out. Full perspex side windows front and rear. New 20 litre competition spec “Jazz” fuel cell, new high flow Facet fuel pump, original Sparco 2000 competition seat with brand new in date FIA spec TRS 6 point 3” safety harness, brand new 4.25 litre mechanical plumbed in fire eater system, original oil pressure and water temperature gauges. Internally fitted battery in the correct battery box. Full Autoguage rev counter with built in adjustable rev limiter.
Fully adjustable bias pedal box assembly with bias pedal adjuster, AP front and rear master cylinders. Front Willwood 4 pot brake calipers, discs and pads. Rear calipers are standard original Peugeot with new discs and competition pads. Stainless braided and copper “retro” type brake lines throughout. Modified original hand brake mechanism mounted on AP hydraulic master cylinder for the “fly off” rear brake system.
2 ¼” coilover Bilstein dampers front, and Bilstein rears on modified rear beam. Original 15” wheels with one event old competition spec Rallycross Kuhmo tyres all round.
Comprehensive spares package including different valved Bilstein dampers, lights, gear linkages, original aluminium fire extinguishers kept for provenance more than anything else. Various other spares including 2 spare wheels and spare side Perspex windows and clutch.
As already mentioned, this is an original car, not a new build retro car and although raced once on August Bank Holiday, it will still need a bit of fettling . However it only missed out on the final by 1 place against a Metro 6R4 and RS200.
