1993 WRC SAFARI KENYA WINNING CAR DRIVEN BY JUHA KANKKUNEN

Like all factory Toyota cars of this era, the car presented here was assembled a the prestigious Toyota Team Europe (TTE) workshops in early 1993. Designed specifically for the Safari Rally, it was prepared to meet the extreme demands of the African event.

The Celica ST 185 entered the WRC in 1993 with a new livery for the first time that would soon become the iconic green and red corporate color’s of lead sponsor Castrol. This year at Toyota would also see a driver change with triple World Champion Juha Kankkunen joining the team. Juha took his first win in the Celica in this very car at WRC Safari Kenya. This win contributed to his fourth and World Championship title that season.

The following year this car was used exclusively for test sessions held between February and March in preparation for the 1994 Safari Rally. Driven during these tests by Ian Duncan and Japanese driver Yoshio Fujimoto, it was ultimately not entered in competition again.

After this testing campaign, the Celica was reconditioned by TTE before been sold to Don Naoyuki Toyotoshi, Toyota importer for Paraguay, whose Japanese origins ensured strong connections with the manufacturer.

The car has its genuine certificate or origin from TMG *ST 185 TC357-552*

This restoration was carried out over a 4.5 year period to an exceptionally high standard with absolutely no expense spared. Alongside the restoration there was a full 0 km mechanical rebuild carried out on all components.
